Laura Watts' Night Shift
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
This game is a work in progress. There is little to no gameplay, yet! There is also no end-user support.
Someone's on a vandalism spree, and it's up to Laura Watts to solve a string of seemingly random acts of property destruction and mysterious sand-circles on the beach. Some clues may bring her closer to the social delinquent. Some clues may lead down her down dark alleys populated by the local queer scene. Laura must find the vandal before they strike again, because she's up for review next week. Play it by the book and she'll probably lose. Make a mistake and she'll probably die.
I want it to look like a C64!
You can! Create a file under your user directory called:
.laurawatts.cfg
Populate the file with:
{ "gr_driver" : 4 }
And that's it, fire up the game and you have some C64 goodness.
"But wait!", I hear you say... What does "4" mean!?
Well, I'm glad you asked. 4 is the number representative of the C64 graphics driver. The drivers available span from 0 through to 7, inclusive. You can see which number corresponds to which driver by looking at the game engine manual under the gd parameter of initgraph. (If you get confused, it's best you don't change anything)
Why is the download so big!? What is this bloat!
Content is small, binaries are large. It's because most of the download is the engine itself, the content of the game is very small. So, during the development process as gameplay, rooms, etc, are added, the rise in the size of the game will be relatively small to the size it is already. The largest space-hog from now on will be digital music, and voice acting speech, if I choose to go down that path.
